Apr 26 2013 to Jun 14 2013
"Description:
Opening Reception: April 26, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Sumi-e is a Japanese word for ink painting. The formation of the Puget Sound Sumi Artists was initiated by several artists to study this art, calligraphy (shodo) and flower arranging (ikebana). The organization was started in 1985 in Tacoma and now numbers over 70 members from Tacoma, Seattle, Bellevue, Mercer Island, Federal Way, Bremerton, Everett, Spokane, Olympia, Gig Harbor and other Puget Sound communities. Many members are teachers and instructors who offer regular classes; members are often in community schools teaching sumi-e and sharing brush writing with students. They work with traditional materials and ecourage individual creativity. The artists are committed to share their Asian art interest with the public.

"My work seeks to map the immutable character of time and the timeless nature of our half remembered dreams. Inspired by the world within rather than the world around us, the viewer is left to interpret, through their own filters, what time means to them. Digital art provides me the perfect medium in which to explore these concepts in new and ever changing ways." -- Michelle Shields Perdue
